Three Ways to Keep Your Water Heater Running as Well as Possible
Many New Jersey homeowners take their water heater for granted, but there’s no way around it: your water heater is one of the most important parts of your home.
Whether you’re washing a load of dishes or taking a warm shower on a winter morning, water heaters are a huge part of the comfort that you and your family rely on from your home. So keeping your water heater in excellent condition is a major priority.
Our professionals recommend that you have a water heater tune-up at least once each year, which is the best way to ensure it’s always completely functional and as efficient as possible. We’ll find and eliminate even the smallest problems, saving you money on expensive repairs down the road and extending the lifespan of your water heater.
In the meantime, here are three home tips that can help you keep your water heater in the best condition possible at all times:
Drain the Water Heater’s Tank
Open your water heater’s cold water supply valve. Here, you’ll likely find a lot of sediment that has collected at the bottom of your tank. Stir, rinse, and repeat until you see a clear stream of water.
That sediment can cause huge problems if it’s allowed to collect, and it may block pipes that are necessary for you water heater to work. Getting rid of it will go a long way toward keeping your entire New Jersey home more energy efficient.
Adjust Your Water Heater’s Temperature
Your water heater doesn’t need to be any hotter than 120 degrees fahrenheit at any time. Making sure it’s no higher than that will greatly reduce wear-and-tear and help to cut down on your energy use.
Insulate Your Pipes
Insulating your pipes will prevent condensation during the summer months. Be sure to use thick foam insulation that will match the diameter of your pipes. You should be able to just slide the insulation into both your hot and cold pipes.
